Introduction

Sir Stamford Raffles is popularly regarded and honoured as 'founder and architect of Singapore'. Many places have been named under his name. One such place is Raffles Institution. However, as much as many people think that Sir Stamford Raffles is the founder of Singapore, there are still debates about who is the founder of Singapore.
